There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.

My Psychotherapy Approach
My Approach to Helping You
- I believe that therapy is not something done to you, but with you, and is not a “modality” that you fit into, but adapting what I know to help you where you are and where you want to go.
- I also believe that therapy can really help, especially if you have a therapist that gets you, & that this is supported by research.
- I believe therapy can often be more helpful than medication alone.
- And that we are fortunate to have “neuroplasticity” throughout our lives, which means our brains & ways of thinking, feeling & experiencing ourselves & our lives can always change.
- While change in thinking, feeling (both physical & emotional), & the brain may take time & effort, these are more permanent than what occurs with medication.
- Feeling understood, connected & really heard is the key to therapy being helpful & to this relationship helping us to heal.
- I also take the approach that struggles & challenges, including those defined as pathology or mental illness, are often normal variations & part of life. So, I use a supportive, accepting approach to seeing our own & others’ struggles, as both unique & normal.
- Most importantly, I want you to feel comfortable and at home in talking with me.
- …and lastly, if you’ve experienced being abandoned by a therapist, I want you to know that I have been committed to being a steady and reliable ear, voice and face for people in my practice for over 20 years…
